Stratego is a classic two-player strategy board game where opponents command armies in an attempt to capture the enemy’s flag while protecting their own. The game combines elements of hidden information, strategic placement, and tactical movement. Players deploy their pieces on a 10x10 grid and take turns moving them, attempting to outmaneuver and outguess their opponent.
As a player, you take on the role of a military commander leading an army of 40 pieces. Your mission is to locate and capture the opponent’s flag while defending your own from discovery. Your troops include a mix of ranks, each with unique abilities, such as high-ranking officers (Marshals and Generals) that defeat lower ranks, and specialized units like the Spy, which can eliminate the enemy Marshal. Additionally, bombs serve as defensive tools to trap and eliminate attacking enemies.
To succeed, you must develop a strategic formation, anticipate enemy movements, and carefully use deception to outplay your opponent.
Hidden Information: Pieces are placed facing the player, meaning the opponent cannot see their ranks.
Turn-Based Movement: Players take turns moving one piece at a time, except bombs and flags, which remain stationary.
Combat Resolution: When two pieces engage in battle, the higher-ranked piece wins. If both are of equal rank, both are removed from play.
Mouse (PC) / Touchscreen (Mobile): Click or tap to select a piece and move it to an adjacent space.
Drag & Drop: Some versions allow dragging a piece to a target location.
Menu Options: Undo, Restart, or access Rule Explanations.
AI & Online Modes: Play against AI, friends, or online opponents.
